Pixel 9 Users Left Out of T-Mobile's 5G Advanced Rollout

TN-Pixel 9 Users Left Out of T-Mobile's 5G Advanced Rollout
T-Mobile has recently launched its 5G Advanced network nationwide, promising faster speeds, lower latency, and enhanced capacity. However, Pixel 9 users are unable to benefit from these improvements due to hardware limitations.
The Pixel 9 series is equipped with the Exynos 5400 modem, which does not support the 3GPP Release 18 standard required for 5G Advanced connectivity. As a result, despite being on T-Mobile's network, Pixel 9 users won't experience the enhanced features of 5G Advanced.

Competing Devices Gain an Edge

Smartphones powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or 8 Gen 3 Elite chipsets, such as the Samsung Galaxy S25 series and OnePlus 13, are compatible with the new standard and can fully utilize T-Mobile's upgraded network.
This development places Pixel 9 users at a disadvantage. Especially those who are interested in cutting-edge applications like cloud gaming, extended reality (XR), and advanced location services. These functionalities benefit from the capabilities of 5G Advanced.

Future Prospects for Pixel Users

While Pixel users may feel left out, future Pixel models may incorporate modems compatible with 5G Advanced. However, rumors suggest that the upcoming Pixel 10 may use MediaTek's T900 modem. As a result, it will also support only the 3GPP Release 17 standard & ultimately continue the tendency of limited 5G Advanced support on Google's flagship devices.

Are you a Pixel 9 user affected by this limitation? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
