Nintendo Warns: Do Not Remove Pre-Installed Screen Film on Switch 2

Nintendo Warns: Do Not Remove Pre-Installed Screen Film on Switch 2 Fileion.Com
Nintendo has issued a clear warning to users of its upcoming Switch 2 console: do not remove the pre-installed screen film. This layer, known as an anti-scattering adhesive film, is designed to protect the device's glass display from shattering and scratching.

What Is the Anti-Scattering Film?

The anti-scattering adhesive film is a thin, transparent layer applied directly to the Switch 2's glass screen. Its primary purpose is to prevent the glass from breaking into sharp shards in the event of screen damage. Additionally, it offers a capacity for scratch resistance. This feature is particularly important for the Switch 2, as it is the first in the series to use a glass display instead of plastic.
Nintendo has emphasized that this film should not be removed. In the console's user manual, the company states: "Do not peel off the anti-scattering adhesive film from the OLED screen of the console."

Can You Add Another Screen Protector?

Yes, users can apply an additional screen protector over the pre-installed film for extra protection. Nintendo offers its own first-party screen protector for the Switch OLED model, which is compatible with the Switch 2. This accessory includes a carrying case and is priced at $20.
It's important to note that while the anti-scattering film provides some scratch resistance, it is not entirely scratch-proof. Tests have shown that the screen can be scratched by everyday objects like coins or keys. Therefore, adding an extra screen protector is advisable, especially for users who frequently transport their console.

Why the Warning?

The warning stems from concerns that users might mistake the anti-scattering film for a removable shipping protector. This confusion is understandable, as similar films on other devices are often intended to be removed before use. However, in the case of the Switch 2, removing this film could compromise the screen's integrity and void the warranty.

Conclusion

As the Nintendo Switch 2 prepares for its launch, users are advised to heed the company's warning regarding the pre-installed screen film. Keeping this protective layer intact is crucial for maintaining the device's durability and ensuring a safe gaming experience.
