On April 12, 2025, WhatsApp users across the globe faced significant disruptions. Many reported being unable to send messages, connect to the app, or use WhatsApp Web. The outage began in the evening hours, affecting users in India, the United States, and other countries.
🚨WHATSAPP IS DOWN (AGAIN) AND THE INTERNET IS PANICKING
If your “Good Morning” message didn’t go through today, no…it’s not just you. WhatsApp is once again doing what it does best lately: not working.
Downdetector recorded a significant increase in user reports. In India alone, over 3,000 complaints were logged, with more than 90% related to message transmission issues.
Around the globe, nearly 2,800 users have reported similar issues—91% faced problems sending messages, 6% encountered app-related glitches, and 3% had trouble receiving messages.
Meta Yet to Issue Official Statement
As of now, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or the expected time for resolution. Users have taken to social media platforms to express their frustrations and seek updates.
Impact on Other Meta Services
Some users also reported experiencing issues with other Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, during the same period. However, these reports were less widespread compared to the WhatsApp outage.
Monitoring the Situation
Users are advised to monitor Downdetector for real-time updates on the service status of WhatsApp. It's recommended to avoid making significant changes to app settings during this period.
