PlayStation Reveals TeamLFG: A Bold Move Toward Multiplayer Innovation

TN-PlayStation Reveals TeamLFG A Bold Move Toward Multiplayer Innovation
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) officially introduced its latest internal studio, TeamLFG, on May 7, 2025. The new team is part of PlayStation Studios and is dedicated to building immersive multiplayer experiences aimed at encouraging connection and collaboration among players.

A Studio Rooted in Community and Gameplay

TeamLFG (short for “Looking For Group”) originated from an incubation effort within Bungie—another PlayStation-owned studio—and now operates as a fully recognized part of the PlayStation Studios family.

The new studio is composed of a mix of industry veterans and rising talents with backgrounds in some of the most influential multiplayer games in recent history, including Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, and Fortnite.
Studio Director and Founder, Marcus Lehto, shared the vision behind TeamLFG in a PlayStation Blog post, stating,
“We believe games have the power to create lasting friendships. Our mission is to build games that focus on community and shared discovery.”

A Game Designed for the Social Era

While details about their first game are still under wraps, it has been confirmed that TeamLFG’s debut title will be a "team-based action game." The emphasis will be on creating a living world where players can find not just fun, but also belonging. The studio’s name reflects their goal: to be the place where players come together, both inside and outside the game.

According to Lehto, the project has been in development quietly for some time and is now entering full production.
“We’re creating a world where players can make memories together. The social layer isn’t a feature—it’s the foundation,” he explained.

Backed by Industry Expertise

The developers at TeamLFG bring experience from top-tier studios including Riot Games, Epic Games, and Roblox Corporation. That experience is expected to translate into a game that not only plays well but evolves with its player base over time.

The studio is also structured to support modern game development methods, with remote collaboration tools and flexible work environments as a core part of its culture. The team works from various locations in North America, combining diverse perspectives with cutting-edge tech.

Sony’s Strategic Bet on Multiplayer

Sony has been increasingly investing in live-service and multiplayer titles. The launch of TeamLFG follows recent moves to diversify PlayStation’s portfolio beyond single-player hits like God of War and Spider-Man. This marks a clear turn to include persistent online worlds in its offerings.

Jim Ryan, former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, previously hinted at a broader strategy to push into multiplayer and live-service markets. TeamLFG now stands as a major piece of that puzzle.

Looking Ahead

No release date has been announced yet for TeamLFG’s first game, but with development now officially underway, more details are expected later this year—potentially during a summer showcase or PlayStation’s annual State of Play event.

In the meantime, PlayStation fans and multiplayer enthusiasts are keeping a close eye on the new studio, eager to see how it plans to redefine the social gaming landscape.
