Nintendo Warns Japanese Customers of Switch 2 Preorder Shortages
Nintendo has issued a warning to its Japanese customers regarding the upcoming release of the Switch 2 console. The company received an astonishing2.2 million applications for preorders through its official My Nintendo Store. This situation is far exceeding initial expectations and available launch supply.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawaacknowledged that this overwhelming demand surpasses what the company can deliver for the Japanese launch on June 5th.
Preorder Lottery and Limited Availability
Due to the high volume of applications, Nintendo implemented a lottery system to allocate the available units. However, many customers will not be selected in the initial round. Those who miss out will be automatically entered into a second lottery.
Nintendo President Furukawa apologized for not being able to meet Switch 2 demand in Japan.
There are more than 2.2 million preorder applications on the My Nintendo Store alone which far exceeds their expectations.
Furukawa expressed apologies for the inconvenience and assured fans that the company is working to boost production and scale up shipments post-launch to meet demand.
Retailer Preorders and Pricing
Third-party retailers in Japan are set to begin accepting pre-orders on April 24th. Nintendo has introduced two Switch 2 models for the Japanese market: a domestic version priced at ¥49,980 (approximately $350) and an exclusive multilingual version for ¥69,980 (about $500), available only through its own store.
Global Demand Information
The high demand for the Switch 2 is not limited to Japan. Globally, pre-orders have already opened in several regions and sold out quickly.
