Netflix is gearing up to launch a significant update to its TV app, marking the first major redesign in over ten years. This overhaul aims to streamline navigation and improve user content discovery.
In the new layout, trailers will play at the top of the screen, while show information such as synopsis, release year, genre, and episode count will be displayed below. This design change is intended to reduce visual clutter and help users focus on selected content.
Introducing AI-Driven Interactive Search
Alongside the interface redesign, Netflix is testing an AI-powered search feature designed to enhance content discovery. This interactive search utilizes generative technologies to better understand user preferences and viewing moods, aiming to provide more accurate and personalized recommendations.
Co-CEO Greg Petersemphasized the importance of improving the discovery experience:
"There is more room to improve the discovery and recommendation experience, and therefore provide more value for members, and therefore find the biggest audiences for our titles."
The AI search feature is currently in a beta phase, with Netflix adopting a cautious approach by making it opt-in for users. Feedback from this testing phase will inform further refinements before a broader rollout.

These updates come as Netflix reports a 12.5% year-over-year revenue increase, reaching $10.54 billion in the first quarter of 2025. The growth is attributed to recent price adjustments, rising membership, and expanding advertising revenue.
